Gathering for the BCNS Explorer cruise

We left our Brum mooring by entering the Oozels loop, home of one of the great canal companies of the 19th century .
The end of the loop brought us back out by Old Turn, and an easy turn left to take us back the way we had come.
As we went, we started hearing news of the other boats gathering around the network: we will be 15 vessels all told, all bumbling around together.
So back at Tipton, and a lovely meal at a nearby Indian restaurant. 
Next morning, water point, and our good deed for the day: pulling a wheelie bin out of the water .
And then back round to Wolverhampton. A little walk around shows good bones but not much money.
And the boats all piled in.
More beyond the bridge..
And this evening it all starts.

Lady days 16th to 17th July

Started the morning gently as Anna due with her big sister Ruth at 11am. Soon started kicking myself for not saying half ten, because she's prone to having disasters and therefore arriving late. Today was no exception as she forgot her phone with the directions on! Only 30 minutes late in the end. Here I need to apologise as so much yakking went on I forgot to take photos... As they arrived, yoo-hooing across the water, a boat was about to go into the double lock, so I hailed them, to ask if they would hold for a moment while I joined them  (relax, I had done my engine checks at 11am in the expectation of moving). They obliged so I slipped in with them while Anna navigated her way, from the housing estate in which they were ensnared, around to the lockside where they could more easily come aboard. It was Ruth's first time on a narrowboat, although both go yachting, so we had the Grand tour as we brought their things on board. Which included vast amounts of food, so I hardly nee...

On the move!

Thursday 21st, and an ideal morning for a hike; mild, cloud cover but no rain expected, and a cool breeze. So I packed my lunch and headed off following a tour suggested by a hiking app on my phone. It mostly worked well, except where a so called path met an impenetrable hedge; there were a couple of detours required. But lovely countryside And loads of butterflies about. Here's the next generation: lots of striped caterpillars: In one village I came across a telephone box repurposed as a library. There was a bit more road walking than I really like, but when it's a quiet one, I should not moan too much.. certainly easier to walk on than stubble fields etc. Soon into more congenial territory: and then out the other side, what looked very much like a bit of Stourport basin, but on top of a hill in a cornfield. Run for Home 11th to 14th June

During the trip to and from Froghall, Andrew became overwhelmed with the need to get home. He'd had it with trees and birds and being outside, and could not rest until we were back at our mooring in Nantwich.  So we were champing at the bit for the first passage of the day through Harecastle Tunnel. We did manage to get to the Italian restaurant, La Barchetta at Wheelock, after many occasions either not stopping there or the place not being open, and it was lovely.  Disappointed that both our pudding choices were unavailable,  Andrew in his unsettled state especially so. However, where we had diaried 5 days to cover the 35 miles and 31 locks back to Nantwich, we did it in 3 1/2, not even pausing at Middlewich (except at the King's Lock Chippy, obviously). And then we were home and I was not even sure at that point if he would ever go back to the boat again.
